Lightening of the Third Advent Candle - Arnold DeShields
Leader: Today we light the third candle of Advent, the Candle of Joy.
This joy is more than a feeling, it is the deep assurance that God is at work, God is faithful, and God is for us. Even in seasons of waiting, God births joy in places we never expected.
People: The joy of the Lord is our strength.
Leader: The angels declared “good news of great joy” for all people. That joy still rings through the ages, reminding us that Christ has come, Christ is coming again, and Christ is with us right now. We light this candle to proclaim that joy is not postponed until everything is perfect, joy grows even in the middle of life’s imperfections.
People: We receive the gift of joy. We welcome the presence of joy. We choose the practice of joy.
Leader: As this candle glows with a bright and confident light, may joy rise in our hearts. May it soften what is tense, lift what feels heavy, and renew what has grown weary.
All: Come, Lord Jesus. Fill our hearts with Your joy. Amen.

Building Block – Twiller Collick
* *** It's now time for our monthly building block. Our building blocks are scriptures that our congregation is encouraged to memorize each month based on our yearly theme. This year’s theme is Transformation. We declare that God’s Word will transform our hearts. Our Building block for December is John 3:16.
Building Block 12 – John 3:16
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Proclamation – Thelma Douglas
Psalm 146:5-9
5 Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
6 He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
he remains faithful forever.
7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
8 The Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
